Abstract:
This study examined the effect of 8 weeks of moderate intensity exercise training on daily physical activity in previously sedentary adults. Exercise and control subjects received a pedometer to wear and a daily physical activity questionnaire to complete for 7 consecutive days. After the 7 day trial, exercise subjects received a traditional exercise prescription for 8 weeks while control group subject continued with normal daily living. After the 8 week period, both groups repeated the pedometer/ daily physical activity questionnaires process for another 7 days. Results showed no significant change at baseline and post 8 weeks for both the control and exercise groups. In conclusion, in previously sedentary subjects, an exercise training program consisting of moderate intensity exercise showed no change in daily physical activity.
