Indianapolis Transcom Center : a mass transit/commercial facility

Abstract

This project was undertaken in order to formulate and test the philosophies and ideas that the designer has developed during his education. This is done by allowing the designer to development a physical object that represents these beliefs.My project type was chosen for two reasons: 1) to deal with the complexities that are created when bringing multiple modes of transportation into one facility and 2) the need that exists for an efficient and attractive facility.In the process of designing this facility, four issues developed that became the primary concepts for this facility: 1) how to develop a building that could be functionally successful, 2) how to make a building that could be economically successful, 3) how to deal with imagery and 4) how to deal with energy efficient design.In dealing with a large project and a limited amount of time the amount of detail a person can achieve is limited due to the number of issues that are involved in the project.In this project, the issues that have been considered have lead down a variety of roads. All of these different areas have not directly benefitted the design of the project, but all have been eventful and thought provoking.
