Abstract:
The health facility here proposed as a thesis project is one link in a health network being developed for the city of Indianapolis, This network consists of three or four central hospitals, four to e neighborhood health centers, neighborhood storefront or residential substations as needed for outreach support, and transportation for preventive health purposes as well as emergency cases. The neighborhood health center as proposed would be a new facility on a new site. This facility will incorporate phased development to s minimum population of 10,000. Although tentative siting would be Cities area of Indianapolis, the intention is to attract both middle class families, due to the services offered, and those genuinely needy, economic families which would enable the program to achieve that critical mix of paying and subsidized clientele to establish a viable economic base. The services offered at this health center would focus on ambulatory patients in a preventive and diagnostic context. This context would preventive examinations and medications as well as diagnosis, pres and limited out-patient treatment. In the embryonic developmental professional doctors would number approximately five with supportive services of pharmacy, social counseling, dietary counseling, physical fitness programming, pre-natal and post-natal care.Sponsorship of the health network development lies with the Health Council of Marion County, Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis Office of Economic Opportunity in Washington, D.C.Among my reasons for selecting this project are its realism, relevance, and complexity. The realism stems from the likelihood of this project being federally funded and constructed within the immediate future. The relevancy grows out of the current involvement of the medical profession reaching for and recognizing family health problems in the home and community environment. Perhaps most important is the challenge in the complexity of programming and creating an efficient, sensitive environment for the human beings utilizing this combined health and counseling facility.
