Abstract:
An attitude of mind is emerging which no longer conceives of architectural creations as an open-ended advance into an utopian future, but rather as a process which takes place in a spacious present. This present includes much of what was previously thought to belong to a superceded past, and it may be that the power of architecture to communicate at all relies on its ability to understand and transform its own language. It is for this reason that I decided to create an elderly environment which deviated from the norm. I took the elderly and treated them, not as an old segment of the population, but as a new and growing segment full of potentials and invigorating views.I created a place which they could create and really be able to express themselves. From this view I created a place that suggests that architecture should not be conceived with any typology of spaces or human uses, but rather these functions should be handed over to the spontaneous forces of life.
