Abstract:
The Field Observation of Severe Local Storms class in the summer of 2005 was an incredible experience that students going into the field of meteorology or interested in the weather should experience and participate in. In response to taking this class for one month in the summer of 2005, I decided that those never having participated in this class should be able to experience it somehow or be able to visually see what this class is about and what our class did on a daily basis. The only way to do this was to make an interactive map taking the user on a journey of what the class saw in the Great Plains during the summer of 2005. In the ArcGIS program, the user will be able to selectcertain days or cities where our class stopped to view storms. Once selected, the user will then be able to view all the meteorological data, storm reports, radar, weather watches/warnings, and photographs taken from the chosen day or city. This will give students and others interested in the weather a chance to see exactly what meteorological data our class viewed while storm chasing and also see what weather phenomena we were viewing outside at the same moment.
