Abstract:
Lasers are becoming more and more useful in the field of orthopedic medicine. This thesis paper deals with a surgical procedure known as the Laser-Assisted Capsular Shrinkage, or LACS procedure for multidirectional instability of the shoulder. A complete discussion of the anatomy of the shoulder, an injury evaluation of the shoulder, the history and development of lasers, and a detailed case study of an intercollegiate athlete with shoulder instability are included in this thesis. After reading this paper, you will have a full understanding of the shoulder anatomy and evaluation, as well as the use of lasers to shrink collagen tissue and to improve stability in the shoulder joint.
