Abstract:
Upon reaching the culmination of my bachelor degree, I sought a project to exemplify my experience in the architecture program. Since my youth as a farm kid, John Deere has always been a symbol to me of country life and farm living. John Deere has been a family name in the farming industry since the late 1800s. By designing a John Deere Hall of Fame, I hoped to discover not only the architectural elements behind the project, but also the educational possibilities in both the design process and at this genre of buildings. In a time when farming slowly moves from a family affair to a corporate environment, it is necessary to remind and teach today's children about their agricultural heritage and the origin of the food they conveniently purchase at local grocery stores. By better understanding where it comes from, they will learn to appreciate and can also make decisions that could affect their health and future. The focus of this project is to create a place where children and adults can learn about John Deere farming equipment while simultaneously being a learning tool for adults to learn about the architectural design process.
