Abstract:
SCOPE is not intended to be educational. There is no deep philosophical meaning, no symbolism, and no examination of serious issues. It is simply a comic book, both honoring and parodying the other comics that inspired it. While hopefully enjoyable to read on its own merits, SCOPE is also designed to take a few jabs at various popular violent comics (most notably The Punisher titles) as well as the collector's mentality and the comics companies' willingness to feed their needs with First Collector's Item Issues, Limited Printings, Randomly Placed Bonus Cards, and other gimmicks. I'm only sorry I couldn't make up a die-cut, holographic cover and include a limited edition trading card with the issue.SCOPE was drawn on Strathmore Premium Recycled drawing paper, using Ticonderoga pencils and inked with Expresso, Cascade, and Berol felt tip pens. The art was scanned into Macintosh Quadra 950 and 840AV computers using a Hewlett Packard ScanJet flatbed scanner with DeskScan II software. Layout boxes and text were added using Aldus Freehand 3.1. Final prints were made from Aldus Freehand 4.0 connected to a Hewlett Packard PaintJet XL300 color inkjet printer. Special thanks go to Mr. Wayne Mock of the AC 314 Graphics Lab for accommodating my print requests.
