Abstract:
Over the past four years while an undergraduate at Ball State, I have studied countless writers and their poetic styles. The purpose of this project is to create a unique aesthetic and a short attempt to define what the larger term poetics means to me as a writer. The short aesthetic statement looks at poetics as a broad category and hopes to explain though poetic terms and a metaphor what exactly poetics is. The second section of this thesis creates poetry through the application and understanding of these poetic elements. These two elements combine to create a whole aesthetic statement.
