Abstract:
The synthesis and characterization of a novel molecular square [Pd(4,4’-bipyridyl)(P(C2H5)3)2(OSO2CF3)2]4 is reported. Beginning with K2PdCl4, successive reactions with P(CH2CH3)3, AgOSO2CF3, and bipyridine were performed to produce this relatively planar molecular in percent yields of 81.9%. Infrared spectra are consistent with the products of each step. This molecular square is a relatively -electron deficient compound that is earmarked for use in the creation of a unique association called surface-attached catenane monlayer that has many potential uses as a monolayer and a nanodevice.
