Abstract:
George Pheldon Stewart was a man who devoted his life to the fight for equality in the early twentieth century. His good deeds and accomplishments in the Indianapolis community were far ranging, yet little has been written in the texts of history of this man. Stewart's story is just one of many that has not been told due to the lack in coverage of local leaders. The coverage has instead been placed on national leaders, W.E.B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington. Though these two leaders are deserving of coverage, there is still the need to divert some attention to local leaders before their stories are lost completely.
