Abstract:
This discussion of the history and the architectural styles of the city of Plymouth, Indiana is meant to be a simple overview of how the economy and other factors influence what and how we build. It was my hope that this would be used as a tool for understanding the history of architecture in Plymouth by those who are not educated in the intricacies of the history of -architecture and its styles, and as a guide through the vast diversity of styles and types of architecture in the American Small Town. It is divided into the following sections: Plymouth Before Railroads, Post Railroad to 1925, and The Great Depression to World War II. It briefly touches upon some architecture after the war.
