Abstract:
Thirty-one female Ball State University students between the ages of 19- 22 were given 24- hour recalls. They were asked to write down everything they had eaten the day before. These diets were analyzed by computer for calories, protein, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamin A, vitamin C, fatty acids, vitamin B12, niacin, riboflavin, thiamin, vitamin B6, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and pantothenic acid. The subjects were then divided into aspartame and non-aspartame users. The carbohydrate, calorie, calcium and iron intakes were then analyzed for the two groups. Carbohydrate, calorie and iron intakes were higher in the non-aspartame users. The calcium intakes did not differ significantly between the two groups.
