dc.description.abstract This thesis is an attempt to critically analyze some new basal readers in light of their readiness programs. The paper is in two parts, Part One being a discussion of the desirable qualities of a good readiness program according to certain acknowledged experts in the field, and Part Two being the analysis of the texts. It is hoped that this thesis will not only help those immediate contemporaries of the author take a closer look at these specific texts, but also encourage the continuing analysis of new texts.
