The soundscape of Garden of love by Jacob Ter Veldhuis
The Garden of Love by Jacob Ter Veldhuis is a very characteristic work within the modern saxophone repertoire. Based on the poem The Garden of Love by William Blake, the piece combines the use of an electronically generated soundtrack and the live performance of the soprano saxophone to recreate the different scenes of the poem. The purpose of this project will be to analyze four sections of Ter Veldhuis work through the concept of “soundscape”. The main sources for the project were writings about soundscape, as well as articles that deal with sound environments. The conclusion of this analysis is that The Garden of Love contains sufficient elements to be considered a non-physical soundscape.
