Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine which qualities administrators desire most in athletic director candidates. Participants (n=50) for this study were chosen from high schools in the state of Indiana. All participants were administrators of high schools that have a full time athletic director on staff.Research findings revealed that administrators desired communication skills the most in an athletic director candidate. This study also found that participants would seek a candidate that has strong organizational skills. This research concludes that there are several qualities including that administrators strongly value in an athletic director candidate and that future research should focus on effective ways for athletic director candidates to prepare for an interview.
