Abstract
This project is an investigation into housing of single families in the near future dealing with energy efficiency. The function of the unit is to provide the essential comforts of a home and reduce the outside dependence on energy. The unit is to function as a normal house carrying on with every day functions; as well as containing a large multi-purpose space and a small design studio. These spaces require the possibility of expansion in the future. The design is divided into three stages: (1) living area which is to be completed first, (2) the studio next is sequence is to be added after the living space-is constructed, (3) the multipurpose space is the last stage and it is to be constructed when money is available to the clients. The main emphasis of the design process is to be placed on creating a housing unit that is self-supportive, requiring a minimum of operation cost. An investigation into the development of the surrounding land is a very important consideration in maintaining a state of energy efficiency and is to be included into the design process. The building envelope should be able to provide a maximum amount of comfort required for the occupants from available sources on the site and in the environment.
