Abstract

According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as of 2023, approximately 50 million Americans have some sort of disorder or deficit in their speech, language, and/or hearing skills that impacts their overall communication. Because communication disorders are so prevalent, it is beneficial to increase awareness of this type of disorder. Additionally, ASHA states that two out of every ten children experience some sort of speech or hearing disorder. With this in mind, it is important to increase awareness of communication disorders as early as possible. This resource is aimed at educating upper-level elementary students about communication disorders and the field of Speech Language Pathology through a sequence of short stories.
