These lesson plans include several aspects about Lafayette, Indiana, both historical and modern. The topics covered coordinate with curriculum from the third grade Social Studies text used in the Lafayette School system. Topics range from farming corn to state and local government. Practice of text related skills are also covered by these plans. Along with the plans are three videos. The first is some video stills with pictures of Old Lafayette (accompanied by a script). The second follows corn from farm to the consumer. The third is footage of candy canes being produced at a downtown landmark candy store, McCord's Candies. This unit works to introduce students to their community and surroundings.
