Abstract

Introduction In conjuction with Larry Roan, Landscape Thesis student, I propose to design a Planned Unit Development (PUD) for Wabash, Indiana. A PUD is a new concept in residential development with a greater emphasis on environmental and social concerns than conventional residential developments. Burr Creek will be highly self-sufficient and will be aimed to the population with the greatest need for housing, the low and modate income, and the elderly.WabashWabash (pop. 17,000) is the first town in the United States to have electric lights. It is located 80 miles NW of Muncie. The town is blessed with an involved and progressive citizenry, a great number of nice old homes, and a solid downtown.SiteFor our site a tract of 300 acres of undeveloped farmland less than one mile from downtown Wabash has been selected. The Wabash River forms the northern boundry of the site. The, area is typically prime farmland or heavily wooded. Much of the site is environmentally sensitive (flood plain, wooded slopes, etc.).
