Abstract
Delicate Particle Logic is a new play that explores the life and work of Lise Meitner, the female physicist who discovered nuclear fission, and the cultural dichotomy between art and science. The process of new play development is an important facet of theatrical artistry and a process that highly benefits the education of young directors. New play development allows for the rare opportunity of a dialogue between the writer, director and actors in collaboration for the best interest of the storytelling. Delicate Particle Logic employs the writing and research expertise of Ball State professor, Jennifer Blackmer; the venue, financing and actors from Muncie Civic Theatre; and the directorial guidance of myself. This five-week process is an exploration in the text as a vessel for history and engagement with big ideas and the logistical applications of new work production. The production at Muncie Civic Studio theatre is the first fully produced production of the script.
