Some applications of the normal distribution in quality control : [an honors thesis (HONRS 499)]

This paper is concerned with the statistical aspects of quality control and with some of the applications of the normal distribution in controlling quality. It will be assumed that the reader has a background in mathematics and also some knowledge of probability and statistics.A brief history of quality control will be discussed. A short review of some basic statistics will be presented followed by a discussion of the normal distribution. Problems illustrating the use of the normal distribution in specific quality control areas will then be solved. Non-normality of data will be discussed followed by problems using the chi-square test for normality.
