Abstract

This project involved developing a plan of study and the creation of environmental art by elementary age children. Students created a permanent artwork in the form of concrete stepping stones, which were installed in Cowan Elementary School's gardens. Research was conducted on environmental art and how it can be related to children's art. Contemporary and historical relief sculptures were studied. Experts in the use of concrete were consulted and experimentation with materials has done. A teaching plan was developed in order to give the children background knowledge needed to create such a project. My goal was for the children to gain artistic skill and self-confidence, and pride in the artwork they created which will be viewed by their community for years.
