Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the narratives utilized by women in Northern Ireland to convey their lived experiences. Specifically, this study employs three research questions: 1) “What narratives do women in Northern Ireland use to describe the experiences of women, both past and contemporary, during the Troubles and in the peace process?” 2) “How do women in Northern Ireland discuss the potential economic, social, and political implications of Brexit on their personal lives and the lives of women?” and 3) “What narratives do women in Northern Ireland use to discuss women’s roles in society and in politics?” Using Extended Narrative Empathy (ENE) as a framework for understanding complex narratives, this study seeks to better understand Northern Irish women’s lived experiences through their own narratives and language.
