Abstract

The Creative Project entailed three processes: a graduate recital, the composing formed on the graduate recital, and an accompanying paper. The recital was performed on January 12, 1978, and was representative only of standard contemporary literature available for the flute. Included in the program were Edgard Varese's Density _21.5, Lawrence Widdoes' Sonatina for Flute and Piano, and Luciano Berio's Sequenza. Also performed on the recital was an original composition for flute and stereo tape. The subject of the accompanying paper is limited entirely to this composition entitled Echoes for Flute and Tape.Topic, discussed in the paper include performance problems, new flute techniques employed in the composition, a.; well as descriptions of the ARP 2500 Synthesizer nodules and the patches that were utilized in creating the synthesized and processed sounds.
