Abstract
This project created a summer, residential, college preparatory and mentor program for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) middle school students based on characteristics identified as essential to successful precollege programs. A review of literature was used to discover a method that established guidelines for developing the model. These guidelines created the foundation for the structure of the selection of staff, participants and the program agenda. As a result, this creative project proposed sample items such as applications, job descriptions, promotional materials, and a program agenda to be used by GEAR UP coordinators for a summer, residential program.
