Abstract

The prevalence of obesity, a disease characterized by excessive fat accumulation, in our society is on the rise. Patients who suffer from this disease face physical adversity as metabolic processes are often negatively affected and can lead to comorbidities. However, the mental health aspect can be equally if not more taxing as patients are often met with judgment and shame instead of understanding and encouragement from their peers and healthcare providers. This website aims to eradicate the weight stigma through education on the contributing factors in the development of obesity, specifically focusing on genetics. Sources and information regarding the definition of obesity, genetic contribution, possible treatment options, and body-positive movements are compiled into the website to promote understanding of the disease and the difficulty patients with the disease face. This website aims to draw viewers in and educate them to ultimately create a more perceptive and compassionate society regarding those who suffer from obesity.
