Abstract

In October 2014, the Muncie Community Development Concept Exploration Committee began researching the potential for a maker’s district — a place where people could gather to create, collaborate and explore different interests. Committee members and leaders in the City of Muncie saw potential in an 80,000-square-foot facility previously occupied by Cintas Uniform Services. Though the startup had some obstacles, the Madjax Maker Force is now home to 35 businesses, as well as immersive learning classes and local artists. This project, a longform enterprise story on the history, current projects and community impact of the Madjax Maker Force, details the feelings and goals of students, makers, business owners and leaders who operate out of the makerspace.
