The incidence of morbidity/recurrent cardiovascular events post myocardial infarction

Research has shown that participation in an outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program after a myocardial infarction (MI) does not significantly decrease the incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) morbidity. To assess CHD morbidity between cardiac rehabilitation participants and non-participants after a clinically uncomplicated acute MI, nineteen females were selected and followed for approximately six years. The cardiac rehabilitation participants showed a favorable trend towards a decreased incidence of CHD, although the results were not statistically significant (p < 0.05). The data from the present investigation indicate that participation in an outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program may be one method that decreases the incidence of CHD morbidity in this group.
