Fairies have been an intricate part of the mythology of lreland since the beginning of oral lore; however, the influence of these creatures can be seen in many countries in a variety of different ways. One way we see these creatures in modernity is through various forms of entertainment such as theatrical plays, films, and TV shows. Further, as time has passed and tastes have changed, the Fairy Godmother has joined the traditional Irish fairy in being one of the most popular types of fairy used.in modern medias. In this paper, I will analyze the representation of these two types of fairies - the traditional Irish fairy and the Fairy Godmother- and why either type of fairy was used to tell a particular story. Further, I will draw a larger conclusion as to why a certain movie, TV series, or play would use a fairy-type role in the first place. I will be examining The Weir (1997), Supernatural (2005-), Thumbelina (1994), Once Upon A Time (2011-), The Fairly OddParents (2001-), and Shrek 2 (2004).
