Abstract

The main purpose of this investigation was to determine what areas of study should be included in a training course for business correspondents in the Muncie, Indiana business community. According to much of the material that has been written about the subject, there are many correspondents who are not up to the task of effectively handling business correspondence. Authors writing on this subject have attributed this deficiency to many different reasons. Most of these authors have agreed, however, that most of the reasons could be overcome by the proper training or retraining of business correspondents. The intent of this investigation was to construct a syllabus for a course that could be used to train business correspondents in the Muncie, Indiana area. The researcher hoped that the results of this study would also reveal some facts about the demand and need for such a course in the community. In order to contain this investigation within reasonable limits, it was necessary to limit the geographical area surveyed to the Muncie, Indiana business community which included the greater part of Delaware County.
