This research paper examines the defining characteristics of Felix Mendelssohn’s organ works. Focus is concentrated on the Organ Sonata No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 65. Analysis of this organ sonata indicates influence of Johann Sebastian Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude through their free organ works. The influence of Bach’s contrapuntal technique is evident, particularly in the first and fourth movements of the organ sonata. This compositional technique altogether assists in comprehending Mendelssohn’s contribution to the Romantic repertoire.en_US
