Abstract

The purpose of this project was to gain insight to students' attitudes toward mathematics in general and toward mathematics classes through the use of a questionnaire. After the questionnaire was given to two different high school mathematics classes, some results were used in the development of a unit plan to elicit a positive response from students. After the unit plan was taught, assessment of the results were made through student comments, observable attitudes toward the class and material presented, and scores on quizzes and tests. Copies of the questionnaire and unit plan have been included.
