Abstract

The purpose of this creative project is to create a training manual that would assist historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) implement lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) programs and initiatives for their respective campus communities. Because HBCUs vary tremendously between each institution, the training manual provides general recommendations for providing LGBT programs and initiatives for their campus community. The concept of this project is to create a literary resource for HBCUs to utilize because literary resources dedicated to this topic are limited; and many of these institutions lack services, programs, and organizations for LGBT students. It is commonly perceived that HBCUs are substantially lacking appropriate programs and initiatives for LGBT students. By creating this training manual, HBCUs will have a literary reference that could assist in program implementation; which could ultimately improve campus climate, safety and inclusion for LGBT students at HBCUs
