Abstract

A qualitative methodology was used to complete this study. Data was collected from seven student leaders at Ball State University. The interview format was one-on-one and semi-structured. The purpose of this study was to gain a greater understanding of student leadership and factors that contributed to continual involvement among student leaders at Ball State University.Three themes emerged from the data collected: (1) past involvement was the best predictor of future involvement, (2) factors that led students to become involved initially differed from the factors that students considered when accepting leadership roles, and (3) transferable skills were attained through leadership development. Themes were determined by interpreting substantive significance through the recurrence of comments within the data collected.
