Abstract

Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Indiana is a location with an incredibly rich history. The building was funded and designed by Daniel Reid, one of the original millionaires in Richmond. He built the church in memory and honor of his parents, for the congregation of the church he grew up in. The building ceased being a church in 2017 after over 100 years and was placed on the Indiana Landmarks Top 10 Most Endangered list two years in a row. The building was at risk of demolition and fell into disrepair. The members of Reid Presbyterian are dwindling due to old age, and their stories deserve to be memorialized. This thesis is primarily a website, covering the building history, Daniel Reid’s history, and oral history interviews given by various former members, many of whom are now well into their 80s and 90s.
