Abstract
Design has the ability to turn text and imagery into an appealing design that can effectively communicate a message to its audience. This message can be used in positive ways to encourage people to come together and improve their community together. People who were previously incarcerated tend to have a difficult time finding their place in their community and obtaining the resources that they need in order to have opportunities similar to their community members. In this instance, different mediums such as billboards and posters can be designed to connect people who were previously incarcerated to the community and signal to them that they are not alone. These materials also communicate to potential volunteers that they can get involved to make a difference in someone’s life. Design can also create a platform for both of these groups that allow people who were previously incarcerated to sign up for the resources they need and volunteers to provide some of these resources. Everything needed to help the community grow could be available, but if the message is not clearly communicated through design, it is difficult for change to occur.
