Abstract

Flexible, nimble, innovative, resourceful, and creative are just a few of the words that describe the qualities that communications industry employers express when they describe the ideal communication graduate. The College of Communication, Information, and Media addresses these qualities by creating a curriculum that is evolving constantly and by putting the latest technology and equipment in the hands of our students. In hiring faculty we strive for a balance between recognized scholars and those with applied experience, most recently “new media” experience. It’s this blend of a dynamic curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, and an integrated faculty that provides our students with the knowledge and experiences necessary for obtaining leadership positions in their desired fields.

We recognize that immersive, interdisciplinary learning opportunities are essential for developing teamwork skills and enhancing interpersonal communication skills. The interactive television course that we’ve sponsored for the past two years is just one example of applied new media learning in a multi-discipline, collaborative environment. Many of our projects have direct ties to industry professionals – which add an important dimension to their “real world” experiences – experiences that provide a seamless transition from college to career.
