Abstract

This paper is the end result of a Behavior Modification experiment carried out at the Daleville Elementary school, Daleville, Indiana. The behavior studied was the oral reading rate of three fifth-grade pupils who were underachievers in reading. A measure of their reading accuracy was recorded each day during the experiment and they were given extrinsic rewards for their performance. The rewards were given to the students, by their reading teacher, in an effort to improve accuracy.
