Abstract

Nursing education is accountable for educational outcomes and practice competencies. Since the Registered Nurse licensing exam is a measure of competency for practitioners, results serve as an outcome measure of nursing education programs. The purpose of this study is to examine GPA, Nursing Course Grades, and NLN Achievement Test Scores as predictors of NCLEX-RN success. The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) criteria will serve as a framework for this study. Student records will be used to gather data of grade point average, grades achieved in nursing courses, and NLN achievement exams scores. State board reports of pass/fail for NCLEX-RN will be the outcome variable. The population will be all nursing students who attended one midwestern college during a 5-year period. The students were graduates between 1998-2002 and the projected sample will be 100 student records. Permission will be obtained from Ball State University and the participating college. The graduate's identity will be protected and data will remain anonymous. No risks have been identified. Benefits include information about predictors. of success on NCLEX-RN.
