Abstract
This study was conducted in order to determine if the fourth and fifth grade students at Forest Hill Elementary in Noblesville, Indiana were achieving the "Physical Best Health Fitness Standards" set by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. A total of 134 students were tested using the procedures outlined by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Physical Best Manual, pages 16-21. The fitness components tested were the mile run, body composition, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance. The statistical analysis included the mean, standard deviation and distribution of scores above and below the health fitness standards. Chi Square was used to determine significant differences in expected and observed values for each fitness component. Values were tested for significance at P = 0.01 and P = 0.05 levels. Findings from this study showed that at least 50% of the students at Forest Hill Elementary equaled or exceeded the nationally set standards.
