Abstract
This study examines the 130-year history of the Ball family in Muncie, Indiana. It argues that while the Ball family benefitted the community through their businesses and philanthropic contributions, these practices were used to shield self-serving practices. It discusses how the family’s relationship with the community changed as a result of economic changes. The project explores the family’s story chronologically, and then dedicates separate pages to exploring more themes, including labor relations, civic participation, and philanthropy. This project uses a multimedia platform that allows the user to view images and travel through the project in a nonlinear way.
