Abstract

This lecture-recital analyzes 12 Colombian compositions by three different Colombian composers. Each work belongs to one of the five natural regions in which Colombia is geographically divided. This analysis conveys the influence of Colombian rhythms, dances, and modern harmonies on these compositions. Mauricio Murcia, Luis Carlos Erazo, and Alejandro Sanchez created new pieces of music that preserve the basic ideas of stylistic rhythm, and sonority to convey their individual vision about Colombian music. Also, one important characteristic of this analysis is the connection between Indigenous, African and European music, and their influence on these compositions.
