Abstract

Nearly all children in the United States have a love of, or at least an interest in, space exploration. Despite this widespread love, research shows that many popular extra-curricular space education media fail to involve children in their creation. Previous successful transmedia stories like Sesame Street have failed to educate about space topics, and many transmedia stories for children are targeted at older age groups, rather than K–2 students, like The 19 Clues. This project creates a transmedia story that engages children in space education across media through interactive elements and storytelling. To incorporate children’s ideas and learning into the creation of the project, design thinking sessions and interviews were conducted. The final products of Tulip Goes to Space are interactive and engaging, incorporating the passion of the children involved.
