Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a physical education (PE) program on the physical fitness of middle school students. The subjects were 199 male and female seventh and eighth graders from Northside Middle School. A pre and posttest research design was employed to determine the effects of a physical education program on middle school students. The battery of tests included sit ups, shuttle run, one mile run/walk, pull ups or flexed arm hang, and sit and reach. The subjects were involved in a physical education program throughout the school year. The subjects were then reevaluated at the end of the school year. Statistical analysis indicated a slight improvement in most areas, however, no statistically significant values were identified.
