A preparation guide for select recital repertoire for the advanced bass trombonist and mixed chamber ensemble

This creative project has provided a concise and preliminary approach to learning specific solo repertoire for the advanced bass trombonist and mixed chamber ensemble. The pieces covered in this project are Howard Buss’ Zoom, Steven Verhelst’s Capriccio, and Eric Ewazen’s Pastorale. Standard method books contain quality excepts for learning these solo pieces. Instructing students to play excerpts from these books will solidify the technique and musicality out of context from the solo repertoire. Applying the skills learned from the method books will enhance the student’s ability to prepare challenging solo repertoire in a variety of ensemble settings.
