Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically changed the way society operated in 2020 and 2021. In March of 2020, the accounting industry was flipped inside out as stay-at-home orders were issued and the busy season had to be completed through remote working. As a profession that has lagged most in technology offerings, the pandemic was the turning point that transformed the way accounting firms could service clients anytime and anywhere. The analysis of the opportunities, challenges, and indirect impacts gives an idea of how the profession has changed and how it will continue to evolve because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through industry sources like the Journal of Accountancy and The CPA Journal, the lasting impacts of the changes implemented because of the pandemic can be compiled to create an idea of what the profession will look like in a post-pandemic world.
