Abstract
This project presented design, installation, and maintenance guidelines for the use of prairie in designed landscapes. The guidelines were synthesized from interviews with people on the cutting edge of prairie design, installation, and maintenance, and from design principles gleaned from photographs taken of state-of-the-art prairie projects. Using these guidelines, a suitable site on the Ball State University Campus was chosen, and conceptual design plans were done to demonstrate the application of the design guidelines. A set of installation and maintenance recommendations was also included to assist designers and facilities managers in the installation and maintenance of the designed landscape.
