Abstract

In Delaware County, more than 17,000 people, or just over 16% of the population, are food insecure. Many of those struggle to “fill the gap” between visits to food pantries. Research has found that home and community gardening could be a potential aid in food insecurity. This project applied design thinking to create a transmedia experience to give food insecure individuals gardening resources to empower them to grow their own food while creating an online community with others facing the same issues. The prototype consisted of an informational website, an interactive blog, and social media campaign. Participants who tested the prototypes like being able to get information and being able to share their stories and experiences.
