Abstract

This creative project has explored the correlation between the human body and fear. The onset of COVID19 has sparked a new wave of fear-fueled scientific research. In time, this fear will fade into fascination, immortalized in the images taken and the stories left behind. Fear, Embodied focuses on mitigating the involuntary impulse fear when discussing the human microbiome by recreating scanning electron microscope (SEM) images in a macroscopic scale. The goal of this body of work is to expose the viewer to images of the human microbiome, both foreign and domestic, in order to spark fascination. By presenting a series of unrecognizable forms, the viewer will be subjected to their own curiosity. The first impression formed is often the one that concretes itself into the viewer’s mind.
